Message from the Headmaster
On the Thursday before half term, we said goodbye to the Upper Sixth Form leavers following their Valedictory Service in Chapel. What a credit to the School they are! As the year group and their parents assembled on Top Terrace to witness the release of white doves, I was not alone in being struck by just how impressive a group of young men and women they have turned out to be. They have contributed so much to the School, not just academically, but in sport, drama, music and art. They have also shown themselves to be concerned for the wellbeing of others, displaying a huge generosity of spirit in the way in which they have supported and inspired many charitable initiatives, including, but by no means restricted to, the School’s overseas partnership projects. Above all, they have displayed great personal qualities and can be proud of the people they are as they move on from School
to embrace the challenges and adventures that await them as they embark upon the next phase of their lives.
All those in the top three year groups have been heavily involved in public examinations over the past weeks, and I hope that the papers that have been sat have gone well and those that are to come go equally smoothly. Meanwhile, I hope that those further down the School will continue working hard, and follow the example of the departing Upper Sixth Formers who have shown us what it means to be a true Millhillian.
Millhillian wins Nuffield Bursary
Josh Leader (L6 Weymouth House) has recently received the good news that he has been awarded a prestigious Nuffield Bursary for this Summer . This allows Josh to work alongside some of the leading research biologists in the country .
Josh will be working at the internationally renowned Hatter Centre for Cardiology at UCL and he will join a research group studying the role of mitochondria in cardiovascular disease . Josh continues a very distinguished line of Mill Hill biologists who have all benefited from Nuffield Awards.
Upper Sixth leave the nest
As reported in the Message from the Headmaster above, Thursday 27 May saw the last day at School for our Sixth Form as they left for study leave and their final exams. The occasion was marked by a dove release and was witnessed by pupils, parents and staff.

Art Exhibition 2010
Tuesday 15 June
5.00pm to 8.00pm
Mill Hill School Art Department
The Art exhibition is an annual event that showcases work from our three exhamination groups. Visitors will be able to see GCSE and Advanced level sketch books and final outcomes wghich will include painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, film, fashion and architectural studies. All of the students are involved with an individual design process and outcomes look mature and ambitious.
Unfortunately the scale of the exhibition is vast and it takes over our teaching space; this limitation means that the complete exhibition can only be seen for one evening.
We look forward to welcoming you to our show.
Singing sensations
Several Millhillians recently took Trinity/Guildhall Grade VI singing exams, the results as follows:
Tim Lloyd Davies PASS
Arman Nouri MERIT
Joel Lim MERIT
Rose Miller (pictured) DISTINCTION
Christien Greaves DISTINCTION
Yasmin Schwitzer DISTINCTION
Among the other candidates, Neda Oskooee & Hannah Lloyd-Davies also achieved high distinctions.
Football highlights
For the second year running Mill Hill senior boys were given the opportunity to compete and train as a school football squad. Led by their strong and perceptive captain George Ghaffari, the squad was made up of a mix of U6, L6 and 5th form talent. The team came through their 3 fixtures unbeaten with the highlight being a classy 5-0 victory against Bancroft’s School. The team’s attack was spearheaded by Luke Connolly-Sherwood as the lone striker who enjoyed great service from both the energetic 5th form wingers and a creative midfield. A powerful defence took away 2 clean sheets with the help of some outstanding displays of agility from Adam Rossington in goal. All members of squad were incredibly dedicated and deserve to be congratulated.
Cricket keeps pupils busy ...
The busy schedule of fixtures has been continuing this term with the first round of Junior House Cricket competiton. Cedars, Atkinson, Weymouth and Priestley all qualified for the semi finals with Murray being knocked out on an exciting "throw off" on Parks on Saturday 22 May. The semi finals, play off and final will be played on Saturday 26 June. Semis begin at 2.00 pm, the play-off will be at 2.45 pm and the final at 3.30 pm. Spectators are most welcome.
Mr Parrish led our U14As to a Cup win against Kingsbury High on Monday 24 May. Lewis Leader batted well with over 50 not out to set up the big score. The result was:
Mill Hill 148 for 5
Kingsbury 53 All Out
Finally, we had a fabulous win in the quarter finals of the Middlesex Cup on Friday 28 May against Christs College winning by one run off the last ball. The result was:
Mill Hill 99 for 8 (Rossington 54, Relf 21)
Christs College 98 for 9
